Young Workers Hub Project

Note: This project is not affiliated with Young Workers Hub (Brisbane).

Young Workers Hub (YWH), a youth-led union supporting Queensland young workers is still in the progress of actively advocating for employees to strike for fair wages and conditions. In the passion of keeping these visual works practical and effective, the target audience for this campaign is Australian young employees under the age of 30, who are heavily exploited at their workplace by undergoing wage theft.

The Approach

To effectively address the problem of unequal pay and wage theft, a suite of three omnichannel designs is needed, including a physical abri poster at bus stops, a Facebook post and a digital sticker pack across social media platforms. These deliverables are excellent campaigning tools: they are fairly affordable; they can reach lots of individuals both online and in reality, and drive traffic to YWH’s main sites.

Rough Sketches

  • The key message from all visual works is to support underpaid young employees to fight for their rights. Moreover, their purposes are to further promote YWH’s campaigns to raise awareness among other people working in the hospitality industry.

  • As the aim of the design solution is to reach as many people as it can, being eye-catching, clear and coherent are the three criteria that my design solution should prioritise. Because of that, a poster with a central image and surrounding complementary texts will be the most effective way to deliver the message.

  • The image will directly reflect the status quo of different aspects of the issue, such as the imbalance between working hours and wages, false timesheets or exploitation. This can significantly speak to the target audience, spread brand awareness and leave immediate visual impacts on the public.
